OK, so a while ago we said we were going to resurrect our 'Bike Porn of the Day' series we used to do, and replace it with 'Bike Porn of the Week'. Well. We didn't stick to our promise, and for that we apologise. To make up for it, and just to make life more difficult for ourselves we're going to over-promise once again. This time though we're going to bring back Bike Porn of the Day for real. We won't necessarily deliver every single day, but it will most certainly be more regular than once a week (that's a promise, and we always stick to our word).
Bike Porn of the Day, or BPOD in acronym form, could be a showcase of our own classic bicycles or vintage bike parts, it could be something a customer has brought in to the shop that's just too fit not to be shared, alternatively it could be something we saw on the internets that just turned us on. Wherever it comes from, it's gotta be pure, unadulterated cycle filth.
So without further ado (and on a Monday as well, what better day to resurrect this thing):
C.B.T. Italia a great little Italian marque who produced some wonderful and often rather eccentric bicycles. Never ones to understate, they've been making wonderful machines since the mid 50s. The meaning of C.B.T. has been confused in the past, but we can clarify that it stands for Construction Bicycles Tardivo, founded by Giovanni Tardivo. They still produce bikes today, although none of today's offerings will leave you salivating like this beauty.
We have a soft spot for gold bikes at the moment, and this one is the most tasteful of all. Gold can be pretty full on, but the red contrasting detail on this CBT Italia offsets the gold perfectly. Not only in the beautiful pantographing seen above on the chrome fork crown, but also with our finishing touches such as the red Georges Sorel bike ribbon, red cabling & Velox cloth tape shoe protection.
Built from the same Columbus tubing used for the pros at this time (Columbus SL), and sporting a full late 1970s Campagnolo Nuovo Record groupset. Hubs are laced to the legendary Mavic GP4 rims, and it even has an incredibly vibrant Suntour Pro Compe shiny gold 5 speed freewheel.
Oh yeah, it also rides wonderfully :)
Check it out in full detail, with lots more photos, full spec & price here.
